For those who don't recall, I wrote a list of indie horror games to keep an eye on, with an added proviso of which I thought were the most likely to eventually see release. The Peterson Case was one of those listed; a survival-horror game with elements similar to Alien: Isolation set in Roswell around the time of the infamous and conspiracy-shrouded 'alien saucer crash' that has captivated the minds of so many Americans for decades. At the time I gave it a grade of 'poor' with regards to its chances of seeing the light of day. but I am pleased to announce that my feelings on the matter have changed with the release of a new gameplay trailer from the developers at Quarter Circle Games. While it isn't quite clear if what's being shown is actual gameplay or not, it certainly raises some new questions about the nature of the title and what it will contain. The protagonist's lines near the end confirm that the game is still set in Roswell, New Mexico. However, the addition religious imagery, paranormal-looking iconography and a brief jaunt in a WWII-era trench lead me to wonder if the makers aren't shifting away from the standard 'alien abduction' vibe their chosen setting is so often associated with and towards something more...unusual. The trailer ends with 'Coming Soon', suggesting what we've been shown is still very much in development. That being said, I'm impressed and engaged. It's wonderful to see projects you followed but feared were dead come back from the grave with a vengeance, and if this isn't such an occurrence, I don't know what is. Few indie games have interested me as much as The Peterson Case, and so I live in hope that given the time, money and love required, 'Coming Soon' will be replaced by an actual date in the near future.
